Backwell Tennis Club

We are a non-profit amateur sports club and depend on volunteers to help out around, and run, the club.  We aim to keep tennis affordable while maintaining great quality facilities and running an inclusive tennis programme for now and in the future.

We’re based in the heart of Backwell, adjacent to the Backwell Playing Fields, and with accessible courts and plenty of parking.

Our five great-quality outdoor artificial grass all-weather courts are floodlit. Balls are provided free of charge, and a ball machine is available for the use of all members.

Our Clubhouse has a seating/viewing area and kitchen with tea/coffee making facilities.  There are changing rooms including toilets and showers.

We have an online booking system for courts which will be set up for members when you join the Club. Our courts are also available for ‘Pay and Play’ use for the benefit of everyone in the surrounding community and can be booked by non-members.

Behaviours

  • We want a comfortable and safe environment for everyone to enjoy their tennis.

  • We ask that everyone is respectful of all other Club users at all times, and agree to the behaviours set out in our Club Code.

  • We have a Welfare Officer who can be contacted if you have any concerns – please see our Contacts page and posters in the Clubhouse

Floodlights / Keys / Security

  • Floodlights are operated by tokens which can be purchased from us - see Book a Court

  • Floodlights cut out at 10pm, to comply with local planning regulations

  • Keys to the court and Clubhouse can be purchased by members from the Membership Secretary.

  • Members – it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure the Club is secure so please always carry your key in case you are the last player to leave. Please check that the sliding patio doors are locked and the Clubhouse door is firmly closed.  Lock the main gate and the gate to Courts 1&2 before leaving. Thank you.

  • There is a barrier at the entrance/exit to the car park which closes at 10.30pm and is opened at 8.00am

Maintenance

  • It is the responsibility of all members to please help maintain our facilities on an ongoing basis for the benefit of all.

  • If you see something that you can resolve yourself then please do it! Otherwise please contact a Committee member.

Playing at our Club

  • Please wear appropriate shoes.

  • Please do not walk behind courts during an active point, and cross a court only when the players indicate you can.

  • Always play the game in good spirit and respect other players / opponenents.

  • Return everything you have used back to the Clubhouse before leaving (balls, ball machine, etc.)
